# Deposit

How to deposit into a vault, and how your shares are priced.

Depositing is a single transaction. You send stablecoins to the vault and receive shares in the same call.

### Before you deposit

Your address must be on the vault's investor whitelist. Both the address sending the funds and the address receiving the shares are checked, so where you deposit on behalf of another entity, both need to be verified.

See [Onboarding](/qiro-vaults/stakeholders/investors/onboarding.md) for how verification works.

### Making the deposit

There are two entry points, depending on which side of the trade you want to fix.

```solidity
deposit(assets, receiver)   // you name the amount of stablecoin to send
mint(shares, receiver)      // you name the number of shares to receive
```

`deposit` sends a fixed amount of stablecoin and issues whatever shares that buys. `mint` issues a fixed number of shares and takes whatever stablecoin that costs. `receiver` is the address credited with the shares, which may be your own.

Both settle in the same transaction.

### How your shares are priced

Your shares are priced on the vault's **optimistic** valuation. Pricing this way means a deposit made while yield is accruing pays for that yield rather than diluting the investors who earned it.

Fees are settled immediately before pricing, so the share price you transact at is already net of them. See [NAV & Valuation](/qiro-vaults/core-concepts/nav-and-valuation.md).

### Availability

Deposits are open while the vault is unpaused and your address is verified. When either condition is not met, the vault reports a maximum deposit of zero and the transaction reverts rather than partially filling.

A deposit that would issue zero shares also reverts.
